Peschici

Peschici is a small town in the province of Foggia and it is part of the wonderful Gargano National Parc. The town is made up of small white houses all built on the top of high rocks so that they can overlook the bay. Peschici is a famous bathing resort too and its beautiful sea has been awarded a Blue Flag.
The coast is formed by long amber beaches and amazing coves and caves in a mixture of savage rock and reassuring calm blue sea. Among the most important beaches we should remember the picturesque San Nicola bay, the colorful Manaccora bay, the wonderful bay of the Turk and the uncontaminated Zaiana bay (young people usually chose this one as a place where having fun even after sunset).

The town still preserves lots of habits and traditions of its ancient maritime soul: one of the most representative customs is the “trabucco”, an ancient wood-made fishing tool which leans out towards the sea. Those “trabucchi” are preserved by the Gargano National Parc and they are still used by fishermen of all ages.

The beautiful Swabian Castle with its tower, Rocca Imperiale, towers over the old town, which is made up of mazy narrow streets, courts and squares. The Sighting Towers are very important too: they were crucial during pirates attacks. Among them we need to remember the Calalunga tower, the windy Sfinale tower, the Gusmaj tower and the Monte Pucci one.

Not so far from the old town you can find di S.Maria di Calena abbey, which has been built during the XI century and it’s now considered as one on the most valuable monuments of the whole Gargano.
Here’s another little curiosity: Peschici is the single town all over the Europe which offers you both dawn and sunset on the sea.
